Through close coordination with Transport for Wales and the housing association, Bikedok is delivering a consistent, high-security cycle parking solution across a diverse range of residential locations.
The installation programme will provide up to 240 secure bicycle parking spaces across Wales, giving residents access to purpose-designed facilities that address concerns surrounding theft, security and convenience.
The compact design of the hangars enables secure bicycle storage to be incorporated into residential environments while minimising the space required and helping improve the organisation of communal areas.
The inclusion of an ongoing service and maintenance package provides additional long-term value, helping ensure the facilities remain safe, functional and accessible throughout their operational life.
The project also demonstrates Bikedok’s capability to manage geographically dispersed infrastructure programmes, combining product security, installation expertise and ongoing maintenance within a single delivery package.
The introduction of high-security bicycle parking within residential communities has the potential to deliver benefits extending far beyond the provision of additional storage.
By giving residents greater confidence that their bicycles can be stored securely and conveniently, the project addresses one of the most significant barriers to cycling and supports the wider ambition of making active travel a realistic choice for everyday journeys.
Accessible cycle parking can encourage residents to cycle to work, education, local amenities and public transport connections, helping reduce reliance on private vehicles while supporting healthier, more active lifestyles.
For households facing increasing transport costs, cycling also provides an affordable alternative for shorter journeys, supporting greater transport choice and accessibility.
The project contributes to the wider sustainability objectives of Transport for Wales and the housing association by providing infrastructure that can support reductions in transport-related carbon emissions, congestion and local air pollution as cycling participation increases.
Importantly, the inclusion of a long-term service and maintenance programme recognises that encouraging lasting changes in travel behaviour requires more than the initial installation of infrastructure. Facilities must remain secure, accessible and reliable if residents are to develop the confidence to use them regularly.
By delivering 40 high-security bicycle hangars across Wales, supported by ongoing servicing and maintenance, Bikedok is helping to establish the infrastructure needed to encourage active travel, improve residential environments and support healthier, better-connected and more sustainable communities.
